Analysis

Disney+ launched in November 2019 at $6.99/month — a deliberate loss-leader price to grab subscribers. By 2026 the ad-free plan had reached $18.99/month, a 172% increase in under seven years. That's one of the steepest climbs in streaming.

Price hikes came in waves: $7.99 in March 2021, $10.99 in December 2022, $13.99 in October 2023, then $17.99 in 2025 and $18.99 in 2026. The ad-supported tier sits at $9.99/mo. Disney is also folding Hulu into Disney+ as a single app, which will reshape how subscribers think about the bundle.

For consumers, Disney+ is a textbook case of "launch cheap, then raise." The service that undercut Netflix at launch now costs more than Netflix's standard ad-free tier in 2026.
